Birth Services and Support

TATIANA DOULA CORK

 Hi and welcome !

You must wonder what is a doula.

The term “doula” was developed in the 1960s to describe the comforting presence of a friend during labor.  Historically, this type of labor support personnel has been used since the Greeks in ancient times, although they were servants and not professionals.

Today, doulas provide labor support to women undergoing childbirth.

A doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. The doula’s purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience.

What does a doula bring?

  • Emotional support (continuous support, reassurance and encouragement)

  • Informational support (information gathering, explanation of procedure)

  • Physical support (comfort measures, massage, physical support, relaxation and positioning).

Giving birth can be the most empowering experience of a lifetime - an initiation into a new dimension of mind-body awareness.
